Turkey to Apply Tariff Quotas for Cotton Yarn

The Decision of the Turkish Council of Ministers for the imposition of an additional financial duty applicable for a period of three years to the imports of cotton yarn (other than sewing thread), containing 85% or more by weight of cotton, not put up for retail sale (HS code 5205) was published in the Official Gazette no. 27031 dated 21st of September 2008.

Under WTO rules tariff quotas were to be opened for developing countries. The Communiqué for the administration of these tariff quotas is published in the Official Gazette no. 27055 dated 15th of November 2008.

According to the Communiqué the licenses for benefiting from the quotas are to be distributed on a first come first serve basis. Applications will be limited to 20.000 kilograms. Each application can cover only one individual country or customs regions.
